"Hi, I'm Dorothy Brown, I'm a licensed Insolvency Practitioner and I have dealt with thousands of individuals and companies through the maze of insolvency and helped them find a solution for their problems and a way forward for them and their families.
The theme of today's video is communication, communication about debt and the difficulties of debt.
Debt is very difficult to talk about, even in this day and age and people have a lot of shame around debt as well so in order to get over it sometimes we have to ask tough and difficult questions but if we listen to their answers then maybe we can help a difficult situation turn around into being a positive situation for a director and a trader and you never know what comes out of it.
A very unexpected situation happened to me, I was dealing with a couple and the lady had to go through a bankruptcy. She needed to attend the court and I helped her go through the bankruptcy and attended a court with her.
A few months later her husband called me and asked for a meeting, came to my office and he sat down and said I need you to help me with my personal debt situation. That was unexpected and I hadn't realised that and it goes to show that sometimes the seeds can be planted and it takes some time for somebody to come to the conclusion that they need help.
So if you're an accountant, I’d ask you to listen to what your clients are saying and if you feel that they need my help please do point them in my direction."
